Our Next Meeting 19th January 2009

Feature

Timekeeper

To provide time signals to speakers and, in the case of Table Topics, prepared speeches and evaluations, report on the speakers' timing performance. (The reports also remind the audience, when they are about to vote, of the names of each speaker and their subject).

Remember the timekeeping role is a speaking opportunity. It can be quite a challenge to bring clarity to it (and originality if you wish).

At the meeting

  • Aim to arrive 15 minutes before the meeting starts, to check the set-up and familiarise yourself with lights and stopwatch
  • Give time signals for each function where timings are indicated on the programme (green light at first time shown, yellow at second, red at third)
  • When requested by the Toastmaster, briefly explain the Timekeeper's role, referring to the times on the programme and the lights
  • Record the times of each Table Topic, with the speaker’s name and subject
  • When called by the Toastmaster, briefly announce the names, subjects and times for each Table Topics speaker
  • Record the times of each prepared speaker (with their names and subjects) and each evaluator (including the table topics evaluator)
  • Report on these when called on by the Toastmaster - for the Speakers and then for the Evaluators
  • Take care not to exceed the time allowed for your report
