Our Next Meeting 19th January 2009

Feature

Topics Evaluator

The Topics Evaluator is responsible for the evaluation of the Table Topics segment of the meeting.

At the meeting

  • Take notes on each topic to form the basis of a 20-30 second evaluation of each
  • When called upon by the Toastmaster, give your evaluations. Ensure you address the room rather then the individuals you are evaluating i.e. "Fred did this particularly well", as opposed to "Fred, you did this particularly well"
  • You should comment briefly on each individual contribution. There will probably only be time for one commendation, one recommendation and then a final commendation. Points that may be covered include:
    • Overall impressions - any obvious good (or bad) points
    • Construction - did the topic have a beginning/middle/end?
    • Did the speaker stick to the subject given?
    • Quality of presentation/gestures/eye contact/vocal variety, etc.
    • Quality of content / interesting / original / informative / humorous
  • Finally you can make a brief concluding comment on your overall impression of the session
  • Don’t comment on the running of the topics session by the Topics Master. This is the role of the General Evaluator
  • Take care not to exceed the time allowed
